Happy Wednesday! It’s been a crazy past couple of days with celebrating mine & Jake’s 1 year anniversary! 🙂 We spent our weekend in Temecula Wine Country and had an amazing time – neither of us had been there before but we’ll definitely be going back!
We got to Temecula Friday night and stayed at the Hilton Embassy Suites on Rancho California Rd, which is the main road for all of the wineries and just down the street from Old Town Temecula. Before we went out to dinner, we stopped by the bar downstairs for complimentary happy hour (which is daily from 5:30-7:30! 🙌🏼 ) and had some wine & snacks. One thing I love about being on vacation is the occasional splurge to eat things we don’t normally… so we went to Gourmet Italia for some pasta!
In Temecula, as you can imagine, there are many different wine tour companies you can go with to tour the valley and we found an amazing deal with Temecula Valley Cable Car Wine Tours! They start with picking you up from your hotel in an old San Francisco Cable Car and being brought to 4 different wineries all day! You spend about 45-50 minutes at each winery, where all of your tastings and lunch at one is included for $89 a person! Now that may sound a little expensive but to break it down, each tasting on the weekend is about $18 for 5 or 6 tastings and then also your lunch is included AND remember, you don’t have to drive!
♦ also, check out the details of my 2 piece set here!
Our first stop was South Coast Winery *which ended up being mine & Jake’s fav winery*
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not much of a white wine girl but the Riesling at this winery was so amazing! (as well as the Tempranillo but it wasn’t too shocking that I loved that one ♥) Here were our favs from this winery:
- 2015 Sauv Blanc $16
- 2014 Tempranillo Rosé $14
- 2014 Riesling $14
- 2009 Wild Horse Peak Tempranillo $18
- 2013 Touriga Nacional $25
- 2011 Wild Horse Peak IL Temporale $35
♦ tip… always go with someone who doesn’t care about sharing… that way y’all try twice as many wines 🍷 🍷
After our tasting, we were able to walk around the vineyard which was just as beautiful as the winery itself!
Our second winery was Maurice Carrie : known for their champagne & sparkling wine … and rightfully so!!
- MC Private Cuvuée $15 *def my fav*
- Cuvée Peach Sparkling Wine $18
- 2011 VR Grenache $26
- 2015 Pinot Nior Rosé $24
- 2014 Rubired $25
- 2012 VR Zin $30
- 2014 Tempranillo $30
Oak Mountain Winery was the third winery we went to & where we had lunch. Honestly, I’m not sure if it was just because it was our third winery and taste buds were a little fried but we really didn’t taste that many amazing wines. The 2015 Estate White Merlot ($19) was the only one that stood out to us.
Winery #4: Danza del Sol : A great winery where they had live music outside but only 3 we liked enough to write down…
- 2014 Gewürztraminer $26
- 2012 Sabrosa $28 (a great wine to make Sangria with)
- 2012 Barbera $34
But, the most amazing thing at that winery was this super sweet, older couple doing tastings of their jam… I can’t even begin to explain to y’all how amazing it is! Not to mention, addicting! Both Jake and I can’t stop talking about how much our mouth waters for it! Thankfully, for us, we purchased one : Maureen’s Gourmet Peach Apricot Habanero Jam 😋
pair it with triscuits & whipped cream cheese for the most amazing snack!
Before we left to go back home, we went to one last winery : Avensole Winery : for lunch and a private tour & tasting!
I got the Chicken Caesar Salad w/ the Brooke-Rosé of Cab & Jake got the Smoked Duck Salad w/ the Sangiovese – both wines & salads were amazing!!
Now for our private tour & tasting… we actually went to the winery just to do a tasting but lucky for us, a couple that was doing their Artisanal Tour & Tasting didn’t show up so they asked if we wanted to fill their spot and pay their (expired) Groupon price of $68…..for both of us! *normally it’s $75/person!*
These are Cabernet grapes that we were able to pick off of the vine during our vineyard tour and those are the different cheeses that were paired with each wine that we tasted. All of them were amazing!
We ended up purchasing a bottle of their 2012 Second Block Zinfandels which we’ll keep an open up on our 2nd anniversary next year! 🙂
Hope everyone else had a great weekend & I’d love to know any other great spots to visit in Temecula for our next trip!
