I don’t know about you but whenever I have guests coming into town or knowing that people will be coming over, all of those projects that I’ve been wanting to accomplish actually start getting done! We have some of our best friends from MN coming to Cali this weekend and we’re so excited to host them but of course, I want to make sure everything is perfect! This weekend was extremely productive for us as we ran all over town picking up the supplies for all of those projects, not to mention, stopping at all of our tjmaxx & home goods in hopes to find some unique pieces for our home!
The first project that was completed was our coffee table! I have an obsession with gold & marble everything … but when you have a champagne taste on a [moderately priced] rosé budget (#newlywed) at the moment, you have to get creative! It does help that I also enjoy doing little projects. This specific coffee table is from the VITTSJÖ collection at Ikea: find it here! Only $59.99!
All you will need to complete this project is:
- marble contact paper (I got mine at Lowes but you can find it just about anywhere, Walmart, Amazon, etc. and it’s only like $7!),
- gold spray paint (also got at Lowes, but can find other places : also $6 : I went through about 1.5 cans)
Painting: lay some newspaper or an old towel down outside, spray all of the white you can see, let it dry…it dries pretty quickly but just to be safe, I let it dry for a few hours before I flipped it over to spray the underneath
Bottom insert: for best results, make sure the contact paper is wider than the bottom insert, get it even on both sides and what I did to prevent bubbles is let it stick to the center of the board first, then start at the middle and smooth out towards the top, then the bottom
What are some Ikea hacks or DIY projects you’ve done?! I’d love to hear about them!
